About the author - Kari Finsen

Teaching for me is all about learning and growing. I have been a primary school teacher in Qld since 1993 and have been given the opportunity of expanding my knowledge and expertise through many different experiences.
I have completed my Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling and have been fortunate enough to also work as a Learning Support/Special Needs teacher for 5 years. I’ve been a Year 2 Key Teacher, an English co-ordinator, a learning place mentor for Education Qld, a stage leader of junior school and have also been provided the opportunity to act in the role of Deputy Principal. All these experiences have been undertaken in the Qld State School system as well as the Qld Catholic system.
Another fulfilling role for me as a teacher is the opportunity to mentor beginning teachers within my own classroom. It was through this experience, as well as tutoring 4th yr education students at USQ Toowoomba that I became very passionate about helping our beginning teachers to make the transition from Uni to their very own classrooms a smooth and successful one.
It was from my own experiences with new teachers that I realised most were feeling very anxious and unprepared for that large step into the real world. So I developed a complete set of resources for you, as a beginning teacher, to get established quickly in your new school environment and alleviate some of the stress you will encounter with starting in a new classroom.
If my book can help beginning teachers foster the love of teaching right from day one by being more prepared then I am only too happy to play that role.
Many beginning teachers have been in your shoes and many have bought my book, so please take the time to read in the testimonials what other beginning teachers, university staff and in-school professionals have to say about my survival guide.
